Your Questions Answered By Experts

Since 1976, we have built an extensive knowledgebase and earned a reputation for providing honest, practical advice on safely and efficiently filling even the most challenging chemical products.

Which filling machine is best for flammable liquids like acetone?

For flammable liquids such as acetone, an ATEX-compliant filling machine designed specifically for hazardous environments will be needed. At Universal Filling Machine Company, our Posifill EF, Posifill V-Twin, P5000 and Posimatic range of volumetric filling machines can be built to meet ATEX safety standards, ensuring safe operation when handling flammable or volatile substances.

We’ll help you choose the right model and seal & hose configuration, based on your fill volume, container type, and production speed—whether you need a semi-automatic filler or a fully automatic filling system.

Always consult our team to ensure your machine is correctly specified for flammable liquid applications.

Can I fill multiple chemicals on one machine?

In many cases, yes—you can fill multiple chemical products on the same machine. If the machine is specified for a range of chemicals, our engineers will select appropriate materials and components to suit those liquids, including any change parts required.

Depending on the products, hoses and seals may need to be changed when switching between certain chemicals. It’s also essential to thoroughly clean all wetted parts with a suitable cleaning agent to avoid cross-contamination between batches.

Machine operators must always be aware of which chemicals the machine was originally specified to handle. If you wish to fill additional products, please consult Universal Filling Machine Company to ensure material compatibility and safe operation.

How do you ensure chemical compatibility?

At Universal Filling Machine Company, we ensure chemical compatibility by combining the expertise of our highly experienced sales team with the knowledge of our in-house design engineers. When you enquire about a chemical filling machine, we take the time to understand the exact nature of the liquid(s) you’re filling—whether it’s corrosive, flammable, viscous, or volatile.

Our engineers will then specify the most suitable machine configuration, including the correct hoses, seals, valves, and other wetted parts, to ensure long-term durability, safety, and performance. If you plan to fill multiple chemicals, we’ll advise on any change parts or cleaning requirements needed to prevent cross-contamination.

Your product’s compatibility is never left to chance—every machine is built to suit the specific chemical(s) you need to fill.

Do you offer ATEX-certified equipment?

Yes, we offer ATEX-certified filling machines for use in hazardous environments where flammable or explosive vapours may be present. Our ATEX-compliant equipment is designed and built to meet the strict safety requirements of the ATEX Directive (2014/34/EU), making it suitable for filling flammable liquids such as acetone, ethanol, solvents, and other volatile chemicals.

We’ll work closely with you to specify the right machine and ensure all components—electrical and mechanical—are appropriate for your ATEX zone classification. Whether you need a semi-automatic or fully automatic filling system, we can provide a safe and compliant solution tailored to your application.

What fill volumes can your machines handle?

Our machines are designed to handle a wide range of fill volumes, and with optional change parts, that range can often be extended or fine-tuned for even greater accuracy and speed.

  • The Posifill EF and Posifill V-Twin/Four can fill from 5ml to 1.3 litres.

  • The P5000 covers 250ml to 5 litres, while the PB5000 handles 500ml to 5 litres. With the Wander Nozzle and Multi-Dose Counter, both the P5000 and PB5000 can both achieve fills up to 50 litres with relative ease.

  • The Posimatic EV range offers three configurations: 5ml–1.3 litres, 100ml–2.5 litres, 250ml–5 litres

Depending on your container size and product type, we can often include extra change parts to handle intermediate volumes like 1 litre, 2.5 litres, or 5 litres.

And if your needs change over time, many of these parts can be purchased later—giving your machine the flexibility to grow with your business.

How do you clean chemical filling machines?

Proper cleaning of chemical filling machines ensures safety, accuracy, and prevents cross-contamination. While procedures vary by chemical and machine type, typical steps include:

  • Drain and flush to remove residue.

  • Disassemble and clean all wet parts (nozzles, hoses, seals, pistons, etc.) with a suitable cleaning agent.

  • Rinse, inspect for wear, and remove any residue.

  • Dry, reassemble, and seal components correctly.

Each Universal Filling Machine comes with a tailored manual detailing these steps. Always follow the provided instructions and contact us if you’re unsure about cleaning agents.

Fill Drums Without Lifting:
The Wander Nozzle Advantage

The Wander Nozzle is a flexible, hand-held nozzle attachment designed for use with our P5000 and PB5000 5-litre chemical filling machines. It’s ideal for filling 10-litre, 20-litre, or 25-litre drums that are too heavy or bulky to lift onto the machine’s platform.

Instead of bringing the container to the filler, the Wander Nozzle brings the filler to the container.

Insert the nozzle into a floor-level container, press the trigger, and the filling cycle begins. The machine automatically dispenses the set volume—5 litres, 10 litres in one cycle, or 25 litres in three—then stops cleanly. The operator then moves to the next container.

For added safety with hazardous or corrosive chemicals, the handle includes a built-in emergency stop.

With the optional Multi-Dose Counter, multiple fill cycles run automatically with a single press—ideal for filling larger volumes beyond 5 litres.

This setup makes filling large chemical containers easy, safe, and efficient—reducing strain and improving productivity.

This setup makes it easy, safe, and efficient to fill large chemical containers directly on the floor, reducing strain on the operator and speeding up production.
